Hey there, fellow homesteaders and kindred spirits! We are thrilled to welcome you to the Homestead Maven blog, where we embark on a heartfelt journey of embracing a slower, more intentional life. As a quick and short introduction (we will be sure to do many more in depth posts about us as a family) we're The Swan Family, a small-town family who traded the hustle and bustle of city living for the joys of country life, and let us tell you, it's been an adventure like no other!
So, who are we? Well, we're just a couple of city dwellers who decided to chase our dreams and wing it along the way. Researching, learning, and connecting with fellow homesteaders has become our way of life as we navigate the uncharted territory of this beautiful homesteading lifestyle.
Our mission? It's simple yet profound. We're seeking a slower, more meaningful life filled with the joy of nurturing our family, homeschooling our children, and fostering a strong bond with nature. Alongside our three fur babies, fish, and bearded dragon, we're preparing for our first addition to the animal crew—chickens and quail! With dreams of a big family and a desire to provide for our loved ones without relying heavily on big businesses, we're committed to embracing a self-sustaining lifestyle.
Leaving our comfort zone, 5 years ago we packed up our lives and moved 2000 miles away from our family, braving the unknown with little to no support system. But hey, here we are, making it happen against all odds. As a veteran, my husband's resilience and determination have shaped our journey, while our humble beginnings and experiences of overcoming low income and near-homelessness have molded us into the strong, united family we are today.
Our homesteading adventure began as a "backyard homestead" in a mere 600 square feet. But now, we're excitedly exploring the possibility of acquiring our first multi-acre lot, growing our dreams with every step. And through it all, we're humbled and grateful to have the opportunity to share our experiences, lessons learned, and triumphs with you.
